"When we put people in boxes where they can only be one or another, we miss the opportunity to see people as diverse as they are"

I agree with the statement in that I believe it is impossible to place people in to one of two categories and have them believe they do not belong in the other. For me, I myself know that I do not have traits from the other categories, but some others might be confused because it is easily possible to be a part of both categories. I myself am an ESTJ, which is exactly what I thought I would get. If I got something else, I would probably question my traits in that category. I believe that society makes us believe that being an extrovert is better than an introvert because they do better in interviews and leadership positions. That way when one gets an Introvert on the MBTI they question their personality and if it would be better to change it. I believe the MBTI is a good way to discover a little bit about yourself but you should not try to change yourself based on a few multiple choice questions.

Blog 2: Leadership Theories & Models

This week we learned about ten models and theories regarding leadership, and the one that stuck with me the most was the Relational Leadership Model. The Relational Leadership Model is a model that states that a leader must form a close relationship with those that he leads, or his or her leadership will not be as effective. I agree with this because I believe that if you really want someone to do as you say then you should get down on their level and feel the way you do. An example of this model is when  teachers or mentors actually lower themselves to the level of their students in an effort to understand them better, which is something I appreciate very much. I feel like this model suits me because I would be willing to step off of a pedestal and lower myself to be more in-tune with the ones I am leading.

This picture is of a group of people placing their palms in front of the words "Social Change" written in sand. I picked it because it is about people coming together in front of one common goal. This goal is to bring about social change in the world. It relates to me because I believe that one person cannot bring about a global movement alone. He or she would need the support from other followers who were willing to come together to make a change.

BLOG 1: Elevator Speech

Hey guys! I'm Avi Patel, born and raised in San Jose, and I'm looking forward to freshman year as a Bronco! I'm a Computer Science & Engineering major so basically I'm a mega-geek. I'm still a child at heart because I still like to play Pokemon, Digimon, and Kingdom Hearts. I even brought them with me to college. I'm also really into comic books and TV. My door's always open so hit up Walsh 205 when you're bored. When I'm not being a nerd, I like to swim. I haven't really gotten much time to swim in college, but in high school I was on the team. Even though I'm probably out of shape, I'm still up for a race. All in all, I'm a pretty chill dude who's looking forward to a good time in ELP!
